Lucy Dodd @ Blum & Poe

Inventory each architectural element (ledger beam, floor, door, and window) with paintings that look a lot like many others that have been shown in this very space as of late. What's not clear to me about these paintings is how the content functions with the architectural interest. I get the interest in contrast, in this instance, nature and built environment. In fact, I purposefully left out the live plant growing near a sky light adjacent to a painting of similar palette (I came close by including the wood block on hutch).  I do get the genesis of the project; I just don't need to see nor know that much of the process, the background information that really does appear like, well, background (in fact, I know nothing of the subtext until I read the press release and check list).  Dodd may wish to look to Morgan Fisher's career for clues as well as wonder why her recipes for paintings read like Jennifer West's videos.
