Mary Weatherford "Bakersfield Project" @ LAXART
Having seen this work on display in Bakersfield proper, I wasn't sure how such a group of works tied conceptually (situationally?) to a specific locale would translate to a new setting. While the inquiry between light and color seemed to hold up on Culver City's "gallery row," I was missing a kind of remoteness that was set up by the adventure of driving there, there being a place (a landscape) transformed through the work.
